Mo Ghasemi

I'm an MPhil researcher in the Faculty of Business and Law at Anglia Ruskin University, researching competition law, privacy law and AI governance in digital markets. My work centres on how competition law should respond to the rise of open source AI and other structural shifts in digital markets, drawing on comparative regulatory analysis and applied experience in data protection.

Alongside the MPhil, I develop policy through the Supervised Program for Alignment Research, building actionable frameworks on systemic AI safety, democratic governance, reskilling, and the distributional effects of AI.

As a research fellow at the Centre for AI and Digital Policy, I compared AI policies across more than 30 countries for UNESCO- and OECD-facing work, focusing on resilient information ecosystems and digital rights.

I also spent three years as Privacy & Compliance Lead at Crunch Hospitality Solutions, turning GDPR obligations into privacy-by-design practice across product, legal, and technical teams. That practitioner experience keeps my research honest — I write about rules I've had to implement.

I hold an LLM in International Commercial and Business Law from the University of Essex (Distinction), where I wrote my dissertation on the intersection of data privacy and competition law.

Outside research, I co-founded an NGO and helped raise over £30,000.
